Siiickbrain (Caroline Miner Smith) came by the idobi Radio Studios to chat with Fish on Gone Fishkin about her new EP dizzy spells, which officially dropped earlier this summer on May 31. During the chat Siiickbrain talked about the new EP, her aesthetic approach to the EP’s videos, and how she works to change her set depending on who she’s opening for. Only 5 years into her musical career, she has and continues to accomplish so much by raising the bar with each release.
Siiickbrain is known for her monstrous scream across her discography and has been dubbed one of the best screaming performers out there. When asked about dizzy spells’ softer side and not having any featured guests, she describes the sound as, “It’s definitely way more digestible for a larger audience, for sure. And I don’t think softer is a negative. but I guess I’ve always wanted to do some stuff like that and I really pride myself on my writing… I really wanted to kind of prove to myself too that I could do that and stand alone as you know, have this project stand alone as that type… Yeah and it was also super cathartic.”
Regarding the aesthetic of this EP, Siiickbrain explains, “You know, I wanted it to be definitely a reflection of the sound of it. I wanted it to be more raw, I wore a lot less makeup in the photo shoots and I wanted to dress in a way that kind felt like how it sounded. You know what I mean? I really love visually when you see something and you’re like, oh, this is how it sounds.”
