Usher Announces U.S. Tour

Pop / R&B superstar Usher has just announced his plans to headline his own U.S. Tour to kick-off in November 2001 in support of his explosive album, 8701. Usher fans worldwide have been anxiously anticipating a concert tour from the talented superstar. At last, they’ll get a chance to see Usher perform in major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC and Miami, among others. The tour will kick-off in Baltimore, MD on November 29. Opening acts and venues will be announced shortly.

Usher is set to play theatre-sized venues and will roll-out the second leg of the tour in arenas. He is currently allowing fans to choose the name of his tour by voting online at his official website www.usherworld.com. Usher will choose a title from the list on his website, and the lucky winner will receive free tickets and backstage passes with a chance to meet Usher at one of his shows. He will kick-off his international tour in February 2002 visiting Germany, London, Belgium, Ireland, and more.

Usher’s album 8701, released on August 7th, continues to burn up the charts and is still in the Top 10. The explosive #1 hit single “U Remind Me,” (which remained at #1 for 4 consecutive weeks), remains a staple at radio stations and the second single, the scorching ballad “U Got It Bad” is rapidly heating up airwaves all over the country. The corresponding video for “U Got It Bad” featuring TLC’s Chilli is a controversial and sexy video based on the public scrutiny of celebrity couples. In fact, the video is currently #1 most requested video on BET.

As a multi-faceted performer- singer, actor, dancer, producer- Usher has garnered the attention of millions worldwide. He will co-star opposite Dylan McDermott (The Practice) and James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek) in the upcoming Dimension Films/Miramax classic western tale TEXAS RANGERS to be released in theatres on November 30th. Often dubbed the “heir-apparent” to Michael Jackson, Usher’s electrifying performance of “Wanna Be Startin’ Something,” and “Man In The Mirror” at Jackson’s 30th Anniversary tribute (airing in November on CBS) was certainly a testament to his exceptional talent. The King Of Pop himself even invited Usher to lend his vocals to “What More Can I Give,” a relief aid song written by Jackson to help benefit the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Usher has no intentions of slowing down. The Grammy-nominated star has sold more than 7 million copies of his critically acclaimed 1997 My Way album which spawned the #1 hit singles “You Make Me Wanna…” and “Nice & Slow.” With the steady streak of hits on 8701, Usher will soon break his own record.
