Spinal Tap Heads To Carnegie Hall

For most people, the way to get to Carnegie Hall is to practice, practice, practice. Not Spinal Tap.

“If you stick around long enough, you don’t have to practice,” Harry Shearer told People magazine. His fictional rock band will play on June 4 as part of the ninth annual Toyota Comedy Festival, which runs from June 1-10.

Shearer, Michael McKean and Christopher Guest starred in the 1984 mock-rock movie “This Is Spinal Tap,” Rob Reiner’s feature-film debut.

Spinal Tap cut an album and toured in the early 1990s, and have regrouped periodically for concerts.

They’ll probably approach their Carnegie Hall gig in the same way they prepared for their performance at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall in 1992, Shearer said.

“You look at all the posters of what’s played before, and you are awed for a moment,” he told the magazine in its June 4 issue. “Then you go back to trashing the place.”
