Scott Stapp's Fender Bender Aggravated Existing Back Problem

When Creed canceled all 20 dates on the second leg of their U.S. tour on Monday because frontman Scott Stapp was in an April 19 traffic accident in Orlando that police called “minor,” speculation surfaced about how a 20-mile-per-hour rear-end collision could cause tour-canceling injuries – especially when the accident report mentioned there were “no injuries noted.”

On Wednesday, guitarist Mark Tremonti answered that question when he told KROQ radio in Los Angeles that Stapp had a previously existing back-and-spine condition that was exacerbated by the collision.

Immediately after the accident, Stapp didn’t seem to realize he was hurt. He helped the 53-year-old woman who hit his car push her Ford SUV to the side of the road, a source close to the woman said. But in the ensuing days, his injury seems to have flared up.

On April 20, Creed shot a video for their next single, “One Last Breath,” in Orlando, and Stapp had to remain fairly stationary during the Dave Meyers-directed shoot, Tremonti said.

If Creed were to hit the road now, there is concern that Stapp would not be able to perform with his usual level of energy. The group’s publicist said that Creed do not want to do a tour if they cannot give their fans 100 percent.
