Roe Kapara has returned with a new song, “Crying On Vacation” today. The surf rock effort is a certified bop. It is sure to be a summer banger. Despite its introspective and somewhat depressing themes, the upbeat nature of the overall vibe disguises the darker elements. It’s simply a fun song.
Somewhat of a sonic departure from his previous work, “Crying On Vacation” feels like a new direction for the indie artist. His vocal delivery and lyricism feel familiar to his discography. However, the instrumentation and arrangement feel fresh. It’s a bit more developed than his typical raw, gritty sound. “Crying On Vacation” is groovy, almost teetering on a 70’s/80’s vibe. It’s cool to see Kapara exploring this avenue.

Speaking on the song and inspiration, Roe Kapara shares, “I’ve been feeling like a fat, middle-aged, divorced dad recently, so I went with something that would feel like that sonically and picked some lyrics to match. I also wanted it to feel like the sort of indie rock I was obsessed with when I was a kid, combined with some sort of ABBA twist.”
