Rob Zombie Draws '70s Influence For His 'Sinister Urge'

Rob Zombie has put the finishing touches on The Sinister Urge, the follow-up to his 1999 album, American Music Made To Strip By. “I’m all done,” Zombie says of the release, due from Geffen Records October 30.

Zombie tells LAUNCH that he took a completely different approach to this album compared to past efforts. “I tried to make a rock record that was like what I remember from the ’70s in the sense that it’s all live. We brought in an orchestra, horn sections, the whole thing, and did it all live. So it’s just a big giant record. Usually everything’s sampled or done on the computer, this was all live.”

Zombie cites the Paul McCartney & Wings classic “Live And Let Die” as an influence on the project. “It doesn’t really sound like Wings, it’s just the way the production was done back then,” he says. “It’s so big but it’s all real.”

Guests on The Sinister Urge include Methods Of Mayhem’s Tommy Lee on drums, Limp Bizkit’s DJ Lethal, and Beastie Boys DJ Mix Master Mike.
