Metallica Postpones Recording As Frontman Enters Rehab

Metallica lead singer and guitarist James Hetfield has entered a rehabilitation facility to undergo treatment for alcoholism and other addictions, the hard rock band said Thursday on its official Web site.

The band was forced to postpone recording sessions for its new album, as well as a party for the official launch of its Web site originally set for July 29 in San Francisco.

“James has entered an undisclosed facility and he will continue to receive treatment until further notice,” the band said in a statement.

One of the band’s publicists declined to elaborate on what other addictions Hetfield is fighting. Hetfield will turn 38 on August 3.

“James is working hard toward recovery, and needless to say he has our full support,” the band said.

Formed in 1981 by Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, Metallica has sold more than 80 million records worldwide and has won six Grammy Awards.
