Madonna 'Swept Away' To Star In Husband's Movie

After being swept off her feet by her husband, British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, Madonna has agreed to star in his next movie, “Swept Away.”

The pop superstar will play Raffaella, a rich woman who goes on a yachting vacation in the Mediterranean and becomes romantically involved with a communist sailor after they are shipwrecked, according to a spokesperson at Ritchie’s production company, SKA Films.

Madonna’s spokesperson, Liz Rosenberg, also confirmed the star’s participation in the project.

“Swept Away” is an update of Lina Wertmüller’s 1975 Italian-language saga.

When it was reported late last year that Madonna would star in Ritchie’s next big-screen project after “Snatch” and “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,” the project was said to be a caper drama called “The Mole”.

Ritchie has directed his wife in her video for “What It Feels Like for a Girl” and in “Star,” a short for BMW’s Digital Film Series.

Madonna made a movie with her first husband, actor Sean Penn, as his co-star in the 1986 dud “Shanghai Surprise.” She has also starred in films such as “Desperately Seeking Susan,” “Who’s That Girl?,” “Evita” and her most recent project, “The Next Best Thing.”

“Swept Away” may begin shooting in the fall, according to Daily Variety.

Madonna is in the middle of a five-night stand at New York’s Madison Square Garden for the U.S. leg of her Drowned World Tour (see “Madonna – All Five Of Her – Invades Philadelphia With Tour”).
