Post Sex Nachos has revealed their new album…and it’s everything an indie-rock fan could want. Featuring singles “Pop Tarts,” “All For You,” and “A Lot To Lose,” Big Bad sees the Nashville-based outfit at the top of their game with earnest storytelling, fuzzy guitar licks, and nostalgia-inducing melodies that will give you that summer feeling all year long.
Singer Sammy Elfanbaum shared, “Big Bad is the first label-backed album by Post Sex Nachos, which is somewhat ironic, as most of the songs are about the late-stage capitalism that’s ruining our country and the rest of the world. Outside of clamoring about the music industry and what it takes to succeed, there are also songs about love, change, and loss scattered throughout the record. The group has gone through some big life events in the past few years, and a lot of those corresponding feelings are put on display for the listener. If you’re looking for a complete release of pent-up anxiety, this record is for you!”

idobi Radio had the chance to catch up with Elfanbaum ahead of the release. Here, we chatted about the writing process of the new LP, the group’s upcoming tour, and what makes a big, bad plate of nachos. Check out the interview below and grab tickets here to see them in a city near you.
What track on the new LP helped you experiment with your sound or writing the most?
I think recording “Junk” first really set the tone for the record. We came up with the instrumental together in rehearsal, and I brought the lyrics in for vocals recording day. Aaron Wagner (producer of Big Bad) really brought it on day 1 with this song, and I think the soundscape, emotional vulnerability, and general vibe of this track informed the rest of the album!
What did you learn during the process of creating the likes of ‘Prima/Vera,’ ‘Your Second Favorite Boy Band,’ etc. that you applied to this new record?
We had about 1 week to make Prima/Vera, and I’m incredibly proud of what we were able to accomplish in such a short time frame with Isaac Flynn of Hembree. We learned a lot from that record and definitely gained new studio skills along the way. We had the better part of 6 months to nail Big Bad, and we tried our best to toe the line between something very classically us and something very new, and I think that was the most fun challenge of making this new record.
Producer Aaron Wagner pushed us to make the songs as good as can be, and I believe that without him, the record would sound less lively and less thought-out. I think daily songwriting, playing hundreds of more shows, and sitting with that first studio record for a good while also played a part in getting a new sound that we’re all very proud of!
You’re spending a big chunk of fall on the road. How are you prepping for the massive run and what’s your favorite travel tip you’ve acquired over your years of touring?
I’m spending my last few days at home spending quality time with my fiancé and my 2 cats. I haven’t even thought about packing! I should probably do that…I have, however, been shredding the new songs and making sure that I’m at the top of my game for this long haul of a tour. It’s going to be our most entertaining show yet, and I’m very excited for everyone to see it!
What are your preferred nacho toppings?
I prefer chips and cheese, with some jalepeños. You don’t need to overcomplicate it! What matters is the timing.
