Green Day returns to record stores Tuesday (November 13) with the release of the best-of collection International Superhits. The 19-track album spans Green Day’s major-label recording career and includes such hits as “Longview,” “When I Come Around,” and “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life).”
Green Day drummer Tre Cool said that the success of at least one of the group’s better-known songs surprised him-the title track to their last album. “You know, I liked ‘Minority’ a lot when we recorded it but I just never even thought of it to be like a single. I was thinking, like, ‘Warning,’ yeah, sure. Maybe ‘Blood, Sex And Booze,’ that could have been a good single, ‘Macy’s Day Parade,’ ‘Waiting,’ you know, it’s like we have a lot of singles on that album so it was hard to really pick a single. But then radio started playing ‘Minority’ and it was huge, it was, like, all over the world. In Japan they’re, like, downloading it on their cell phones for their ringers.”
International Superhits also includes two new songs, “Maria” and “Poprocks & Coke.” Meanwhile, two brand new Green Day songs are now available for streaming at the fan site, GreenDay.net. The unnamed rocker and acoustic ballad were recorded recently on four-track in frontman Billie Joe Armstrong’s basement studio.
Green Day is in Vancouver today (October 12) taping an appearance on The Chris Isaak Show. The band will also make an appearance on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno on November 19.
