Foos Begin Work On New Album

Despite admitting they are anxious to take a break, the Foo Fighters are preparing to record the follow up to 1999’s Nothing Left to Lose.

“As much as we’d like to take a vacation and enjoy life outside of the band, I think we’ve finally realized that the best part about life is this band, and there’s nothing we’d rather do,” writes Foos frontman Dave Grohl in a post on the band’s Web site, www.foofighters.com. “So, we’ve been demo-ing a bunch of new songs and it looks like it won’t be too long before we really start in on the record.”

The Foos have yet to schedule studio time, but Grohl hinted that when they do, the new material would take a harder tinged direction. “Not many sleepy ballads on this one, I’m afraid,” he wrote. “And, I started rapping! (that was a joke.) Who knows when it’s gonna come out, but we’re all more excited about this than anything we’ve ever done.”

Before the recording can take place, Grohl will take the summer to complete work on his heavy metal side-project Probot, which will feature vocal spots from Slayer’s Tom Araya and Motorhead’s Lemmy Kilmister, among others. Grohl is to be kept further afar from any chance of a vacation thanks to the recording of Queens of the Stone Age’s upcoming LP Songs for the Deaf. He has signed up to do some guest drumming spots for the Southern California stoner metallers, who head in studio this July with producer Eric Valentine (Third Eye Blind, Smash Mouth).
