Blink-182 To Scrub Staind From Atop Albums Chart

One of rock’s more upbeat bands, Blink-182, will scrub dour rockers Staind from their three-week reign atop the Billboard 200 albums chart next week.

Blink-182’s new album, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, which boasts the radio hit “Rock Show,” sold nearly 350,000 copies last week and will land at #1, according to SoundScan data released Wednesday (June 20). The album, Blink-182’s fourth studio effort, will be their first to reach #1.

Staind’s Break the Cycle will slip to #2 after selling 221,179 copies, while Destiny’s Child will move from #5 to #3 with Survivor.

Sugar Ray will have the week’s second-highest debut, landing at #6 with their eponymous new album, which includes the single “When It’s Over.”

R&B survivors Silk will land at #20 with Love Session, and rapper AZ, a former member of hip-hop supergroup the Firm, will follow at #23 with 9 Lives.

Other notable debuts will include Travis’ Invisible Band at #39 and Electric Light Orchestra’s Zoom at #94.

Jessica Simpson’s Irresistible, which debuted at #6 this week, will drop to #12, while Cash Money rapper Turk’s Young & Thuggin’will plunge to #31 after debuting at #9. Despite the hit single “More Than That” and a new arena tour, the Backstreet Boys’ Black & Blue will drop from #90 to #103 after reaching #73 two weeks earlier.

The bluegrass-filled soundtrack to the Coen brothers’ comedy “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” which just debuted on DVD, will move in the opposite direction, leaping from #44 to #16.

Several Ozzfest acts will see chart boosts next week. Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory will move from #17 to #13, Drowning Pool’s Sinner will hop from #81 to #72 and Disturbed’s Sickness will jump from #95 to #89.

The rest of the top 10 will consist of the “Moulin Rouge” soundtrack at #4, St. Lunatics’ Free City at #5, Now That’s What I Call Music! Vol. 6 at #7, Radiohead’s Amnesiac at #8, Tool’s Lateralus at #9 and Weezer’s Weezer (The Green Album) at #10.
