MTV sticks with reality

The 12th season of MTV’s reality series, which is scheduled to go into production in January, will be shot in Las Vegas, and air in July. The 11th season of the “Real World,” which recently wrapped production in Chicago, is set to premiere in January.

At a time when broadcast networks are backing down on their commitment to reality programming, MTV continues to have confidence in the genre. The music cable network will in February begin production on the 11th season of “Road Rules,” which will tape throughout the South. It will also air in July.

MTV had been planning to increase the “danger factor” for “Road Rules” by shooting in an international locale, but the events of Sept. 11 and the ensuing conflict overseas tabled those plans.

The network also recently picked up the canceled “Making the Band” from ABC, with plans to produce new episodes, the first of which will air in early January.
