British boy band Blue left their rivals seeing red on Sunday after reaching number one in the UK pop charts.
The R&B quartet knocked Five’s “Let’s Dance” off the top with their second single, “Too Close,” a soul-inspired cover of Next’s 1998 hit.
The Blue boys – Duncan James, Anthony Costa, Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe – beat stiff competition for the top slot from Spice Girl Emma Bunton and ex-Eternal member Louise.
Blue surprised many in the industry when their debut single “All Rise” spent five weeks in the top ten earlier this year.
Louise entered this week’s chart at number four with her cover of the 1973 Stealers Wheel hit “Stuck in the Middle with You.”
Straight in at number five was Bunton, a.k.a. Baby Spice, with “Take My Breath Away,” the second single to be taken from her debut solo album “A Girl Like Me.”
Kid Rock’s DJ Uncle Kracker entered the top 40 at number three with “Follow Me,” a calypso-soaked summer anthem.
Indie veterans The Charlatans were in at number 16 with “Love is the Key,” taken from their seventh album, “Wonderland.”
