Madonna's Conical Bra Sold To Fashion Museum

A black satin conical bra that pop diva Madonna wore for her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour was auctioned off in London Thursday for 14,000 pounds ($20,000).

The bra, which was designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier, had been expected to fetch up to 3,000 pounds ($4,000) at the pop-music sale at Christie’s auction house.

The vendor had won the item in a radio competition after the tour. It was snapped up by a Chilean fashion museum.

Ever-popular Beatles items also fetched high prices.

A letter written by John Lennon to an Indian fan while he was studying meditation there fetched 9,400 pounds ($14,000). The polite refusal to fund a world trip for the fan was bought by a telephone bidder.

The hand-written lyrics to “The Fool on the Hill” by Paul McCartney were bought by a private collector for 19,975 pounds ($28,800).

And a pair of wooden drumsticks used by Ringo Starr in 1965 sold for 4,230 pounds ($6,100).

Among other relics sold was a two-piece ivory stage suit formerly belonging to Buddy Holly, which went for 10,575 pounds ($15,240). The singer wore it on his 1957 U.S. tour, two years before he died in a plane crash at the age of 22.
